MICHAEL BEDDALL

Michael Beddall is an Ottawa-based painter whose work explores the Canadian wilderness through oil on canvas. Drawing inspiration from the Group of Seven, particularly Lawren Harris and Tom Thomson, he creates landscapes that are not literal records, but reimagined interpretations of nature’s beauty. His paintings emphasize light, colour, and an idealized vision of the wilderness, blending memory, imagination, and observation into vivid, dreamlike scenes.

Beddall’s background in graphic design informs his approach to painting, particularly in his use of composition, colour, and visual balance. He continues to develop a body of paintings that invite viewers into a vivid and contemplative interpretation of the Canadian landscape.

Beddall has exhibited both locally and internationally, with exhibitions at Saw Gallery (Ottawa), Sparks Street Artist Alley (Ottawa), and Design Festa Gallery (Tokyo). His recent exhibitions include the Arteast Awards Exhibition (Ottawa, 2026), The Giving Gallery (Winchester, 2026), and upcoming exhibitions at Electric Gallery (Ottawa, 2026 and 2027), including a scheduled solo exhibition.
